Traffic Handling Plan for San Joaquin County
The Tour de Cure Women's Series is a new fundraising event of the American Diabetes Association, with the
inaugural Northern California ride taking place on Sunday, October 26,2014.There are three routes (15, 36, and
66 miles), starting and ending in Pleasanton. Only the 66 mile route will pass through San Joaquin County.
This is a ride, not a race, with cyclists riding in bike lanes, and obeying all traffic laws and signals. We expect
approximately 300 cyclists to participate, with fewer than 100 choosing the 66 mile route. The cyclists will be
passing through San Joaquin County approximately between 8:30am and 12:30pm on October 26.
The American Diabetes Association's co-ed Tour de Cure has been taking place in the Napa Valley for over 20
years, and we have an exceptional track record with regard to rider safety and sharing the road with vehicles,
even with the growth of that event to 2,500 riders. Cyclists at all Tour de Cure events are instructed from the
time they register to the day of the event that they will be expected to stop at stop signs and stop lights and ride
single-file. We expect the impact of our event on vehicle traffic to be minimal.
All signs and placements will be per MUTCD Standards.
Detours—No detours or road closures planned.
Signage—All signage on Type III barricades
"Special Event Ahead" (Sign SC5) at
intersection of Corral Hollow and Valpico
intersection of Hansen and Von Sosten
Bicycle and "Share the Road" (Signs W11-1 and W16-1) at
intersection of Valpico and S Lammers
intersection of Hansen Rd and W Schulte
CHP/Sheriff —
CHP/Sheriff at Corral Hollow off-ramp from 580W
CHP/Sheriff at intersection of Corral Hollow and Valpico
CHP/Sheriff at intersection of S Lammers and W Schulte
CHP/Sheriff at intersection of W Schulte and Hansen
Intersections—Cyclists will ride in bike lanes and stop at stop signs and stop lights; automobile traffic should be
minimally affected. See above for location of intersections where signs or law enforcement will be present.
