Traffic Control Plan
Rabbit Creek Causeway Spillway Installation
Project Description
Rabbit Creek Causeway is an Amador County road embankment built in 1964 that
separates the Camanche Lake to the south and the Rabbit Creek Lake to the north(see
Vicinity Map attached). Both lakes are interconnected by a 90 inch-diameter steel plate
culvert at the bottom of the 60 foot high embankment. hi February 2006, a large scarp
(approximately 30 foot wide x 30 foot long)occurred due to failure of the culvert,
blocking the hydraulic connection between the lakes. Emergency repair consisting of
filling in the scarp with 1,200 tons of riprap was performed it)early March 2006 to keep
the road embankment from further damage. Without an outflow to the Camanche Lake,
Rabbit Creek Lake is anticipated to overtop and fail the road embankment in the
2006/2007 rainy season.
To prevent overtopping of the road embankment, the District plans to install a 7-foot-
diameter corrugated metal pipe spillway in the area of the east abutment. The invert of
the spillway pipe will be at Elevation 230',approximately 12 feet below the embankment
crest. The construction needs to be completed by the end of November 2006. Up to one
month of road closure will be necessary to perform this construction. After the spillway
construction, the roadway will be restored to its pre-existing conditions.
Schedule for Construction
Start—November 1, 2006
Estimated Completion with no rain delays—November 30, 2006
Traffic Control per attached Vicinity Maps
1) Lakeview Drive—Road Closed—with turnaround (3-Type 3 barricades)
2) Curran Road—Detour- directing Camanche N Parkway to Curran Rd/Jackson
Valley Road
3) Quiver Drive—Detour- directing Camanche N Parkway to Curran Rd/Jackson
Valley Road
4) Rabbit Creek Causeway(East)— (3- Type 3 Barricades)
5) Liberty Road(East)—Road Closed Ahead—Local traffic permitted.
6) County Line-Amador County/San Joaquin County—Road Closed—with
turnaround (3-Type 3 barricades)
7) Rabbit Creek Causeway(West)—(3-Type 3 Barricades)
Barricades—Type 3 (8"X6' One side reflective)(with Flashing Barricade lights)
Traffic Signs—(Road Closed, Detour)—30"per MUTCD as amended by State of
California.
Information Signs: (Black on Orange 3'X4')All wording based on EBMUD plan as
approved by Amador County
Road Closed Ahead for Causeway Construction from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30"'
P:IDATAIMSOFFICEIWINWORD1Camanche CausewayWraffic Control Plan Temp Spillway.doc
