November 27, 2006
MEMORANDUM
TO: Tom Gau, Chief Deputy Director
Development Services
FROM: Michael Callahan, Senior Civil Engineer J
Public Services
SUBJECT: DEBBIE MACHADO (CALIFORNIA WATER COMPANY)REQUEST
FOR A WAIVER OF THE TRENCHING POLICY.
This memo is regarding a request from Debbie Machado for a waiver of the San Joaquin
County Department of Public Works trenching policy. Mrs. Machado is planning to tap
into an existing water line using the bellhole method to provide water service to a new
home site on 2246 "F" Street. As the street was recently paved, our policy does not allow
for new pavement cuts. In order to mitigate for the trench, California Water Company
will line saw-cut, grind and resurface ten feet perpendicular to the water line connection
and extending from the edge of pavement to the center of the roadway as shown on the
attached Trench Detail.
Pete Martin from Design Engineering and David Mendoza from Field Engineering,
have reviewed and concur with of the work that is planned to be performed on"F" Street.
My recommendation is to allow the applicant to tap into the water line as stated above
based on the proposed mitigation to grind and resurface the recently reconstruction
roadway to conform to the rest of the road. Any disturbed striping is to be replaced as it
was before the work was performed.
Approved by:
Attachments
