Box 2009 6NYI ONMENTAL HEALTH
Stockton; California 95201 RRM)f
Dear Mr. Biederman:
The City of Manteca Public Works Department has been contacted by Mr.
Harold Updike regarding the City' s requiremeri'ts foj' construction of
individual domestic water wells .
Mr. Updike proposes to construct a new well, to replace an existing
shallow well, to serve his residence located at 700 South Union Road,
Manteca.
The City would prefer that all residences within the City of Manteca be
served by City constructed and monitored water wells . However, the use -
of City supplied water cannot be mandated if the operation of the
private well does not interfere with the operation of a public water
well and provisions are made to prohibit cross contamination between
the private and public water supplies .
In this case the residence is not currently served by the public water
supply and therefore a cross contamination will 'not occur. If the
residence is connected to the public water supply in the future, a
backflow prevention device will be required or the private well must be
abandoned.
The City requires that Mr. Updike construct his well in accordance with
the provisions contained in the enclosed City Ordinance No. 425 .
If you have any questions or need additional information, call me at
(209) 239-8462 .
Since
r ,
J 'm Podesta
eputy Director of Public Works/Engineering
JP/1k
I
cc: Mr. Harold Updike
Michael F.
