LLNL Emergency Plan
Rev-22
January 2017

78
The Wireless Priority Service provides priority for emergency calls made from Wireless Priority
Service-equipped cell phones, including smartphones. Wireless Priority Service is an add-on
feature subscribed on a per cell phone basis and works with existing cell phones in Wireless
Priority Service-equipped networks. Wireless Priority Service greatly increases the probability of
completing cellular telephone calls during a national security/emergency preparedness event.
The Laboratory Director, Deputy Director, LEDOs, EMDOs, SDOs and ORDOs are also
enrolled in Government Emergency Telecommunications Service/Wireless Priority Service.
Additionally, two Government Emergency Telecommunications Service cards are located in the
LLNL EOC. The DHS’s Office of Emergency Communications requires that holders of
Government Emergency Telecommunications Service cards and Wireless Priority Service-
equipped cellphones test these capabilities quarterly.
