UNIVAR USA INC. univAR
CONTINGENCY PLAN
06/14/11 Replaces 03/10/10
SECTION
SUBJECT PAGE 19
SIX
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES OF 22
materials transporter may be utilized. Branch manpower to load the inventory into the
transport vehicles should be made immediately available. Notify your Regional Operations
Manager of the temporary storage location for materials moved off-site.
To assist Emergency Coordinators during a hurricane, flood or severe storm, the checklists
in Exhibit 1 of this section have been developed.
If a flood or hurricane force winds are predicted, the Emergency Coordinator or their
alternate must consider steps to alleviate potential releases of hazardous substances to the
environment. The National Weather Advisory broadcasts should be followed for guidance
under these circumstances. The Branch should have available a battery powered radio to
insure reception of weather information if normal electrical power is interrupted.
When warning of a natural disaster is received after normal working hours, the Emergency
Coordinator shall locate and call in sufficient manpower to the Branch to assist in
emergency procedures.
Following any natural disaster, the facility, its structures and equipment must be thoroughly
inspected by the Emergency Coordinator before normal Branch operations are resumed.
The Emergency Coordinator should pay particular attention to any releases of hazardous
materials that need to be remedied, inventory losses which cannot be accounted for, and
the integrity of facility structures. Please utilize the Post Hurricane and Flood checklist in
Exhibit 1 and the Natural Disaster Clean-Up Warnings in Exhibit 2 prior to restarting the
facility. If necessary, the Emergency Coordinator may consider contracting with a structural
engineer if there are questions about the structural integrity of any buildings, storage tanks,
or any other structures which may appear to be unsafe.
Details for flood and earthquake response for hazardous waste storage facilities can be
found in the Part B or Interim Status document.
With Univar's strategic positioning over 100 facilities nationwide, should a facility sustain
sufficient damage to prevent normal operations, product shipments could be handled by
another Univar location without disruption of service to our customers.
