U IVAR <br />CONTINGENCY PLAN <br />06/14/11 Replaces 03/10/10 <br />SECTION SUBJECT PAGE 2 <br />NINE FIRST AID / MEDICAL ASSISTANCE OF 2 <br />If the chemical a victim has been exposed to is known, the Material Safety Data Sheet <br />(MSDS) for it should be consulted for emergency medical advice. <br />In most, if not all, situations of exposure the following emergency procedures should be <br />implemented: <br />Remove the victim from the exposure - get them into fresh air. <br />Keep the victim warm. <br />Reassure and calm the victim. <br />Remove constrictive and contaminated clothing. <br />Administer oxygen if available. <br />In all emergency situations be sure to call for professional medical assistance as soon as <br />possible. Take a copy of the appropriate current material safety data sheets to the <br />emergency room or other medical facility. If the computer system is not available due to a <br />power failure or other situation, MSDSs can be faxed to the medical facility from any <br />available Univar USA office. Additionally, MSDSs are on file and available by fax from <br />CHEMTREC at 1-800-424-9300. <br />In the event of an incident, implement the appropriate medical surveillance aspects of the <br />HAZWOPER program.
