UNIVAR USA INC. univAR
CONTINGENCY PLAN

)6/14/11 Replaces 03/10/10

SUBJECT PAGE 3 SECTION
FIVE
PRE-EMERGENCY PLANNING OF 15
EXPLOSIONS
As outlined in the previous section, Univar facilities can handle multiple products and
quantities of flammable liquids. Package sizes can include 5 gallon pails, 55 gallon drums,
portable tanks, intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and bulk tanks.
At Univar facilities flammable liquids can be stored in, but not limited to:
CI Pails
El Drums
El Portable tanks/IBCs
Ell Bulk tanks
As a general rule, the threat of an explosion from these products is relatively low; however,
that can change should a fire break out.
Flammable liquids and mixtures that contain flammable compounds are extreme fire
hazards. If sealed containers of these liquids are in a fire or in close proximity to a fire, the
resulting heat could cause the container to explode violently.
Evacuation assembly point areas should be located away from storage areas of
containerized flammables.
