Hazardous Wastes: <br />Hazardous wastes generally exhibit properties similar to its hazardous materials <br />components. The hazardous characteristics of the wastes are those of ignitability, <br />reactivity, corrosivity and/or toxicity. <br />Hazardous wastes will usually be in containers (55 gallon drums, IBCs or portable <br />tanks of 500 gallons or less), and they will either be in transit through the facility (on- <br />site for only several days) or, for specially permitted facilities, in storage in a <br />specially designed storage facility with a secondary containment system. The types <br />of hazardous wastes that may be present are: <br />EPA WASTE CODE HAZARDOUS CHARACTERISTIC <br />F001 TOXIC <br />F002 TOXIC <br />F003 TOXIC & IGNITABLE <br />F005 IGNITABLE <br />D001 IGNITABLE <br />D002 CORROSIVE <br />U002-U239 TOXIC and/or IGNITABLE <br />Spills of hazardous wastes should be contained using sand and other inert <br />adsorbents. Clean-up of the spill should be conducted in the same manner <br />described above for their non-waste equivalents. Persons coming into contact with <br />a spilled hazardous waste should remove contaminated clothing and wash <br />thoroughly with soap and water. Obtain medical attention as soon as possible.
