SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY- OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES <br /> HAZARDOUS MATERIALS DIVISION <br /> 222 East Weber Avenue, Room 610A, Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> a-. <br /> Q, <br /> Telephone (209)468-3969 <br /> S�%FpPa` <br /> CALIFORNIA HAZARDOUS MATERIALS REPORT ADDENDUM <br /> Incident Description/Comments <br /> IR- 00465 <br /> On October 15, 1997 at 0830, OES 5 (Art Bentley Jr.)received a call from Stephen Rapp of Delicato <br /> Vineyards for notification of a sulfur dioxide release on October 14, 1997 at approximately 2030. <br /> Mr. Rapp said that the site glass broke on the SO2 canister resulting in a release of the sulfur dioxide. <br /> The total amount released was estimated at 60 pounds. Employees quickly put the leaking canister in <br /> a barrel of caustic soda solution to control the gas vapors and neutralize the chemical. Two <br /> employees suffered some effects from the release and were transported to an emergency medical <br /> facility, treated and released. Fire and medics were not notified however, and did not respond. <br /> Mr. Rapp was advised of the late report of the incident and was requested to call the State Warning <br /> Center,National Response Center, and the SJ County Agricultural Commissioner's Office. Art <br /> • Bentley Jr. requested that a written report describing the details of the incident be submitted to OES. <br /> Mr. Rapp was further advised that a routine"Emergency Response Inspection" as per Part 2, Article <br /> 3.5.3 of the Office of Emergency Service's Administrative Handbook be conducted by an OES staff <br /> person. <br /> • <br /> Page 3 <br />
