API 510 In-Service Inspection Report
for Inspection
Ethanol
Vessel No. VS-6104 August 6,2013 and January 9,2014
Stockton, CA Page 6 of 29
INSPECTION SUMMARY (CONT'D.)
Heads: Visual (VT) inspection of the tank heads noted random areas of minor coating
failure with dirt stains and rust present. This condition does not affect the overall
integrity of the tank. This is provided as information only and consideration should be
given to monitoring and maintaining the tank coating as necessary.
Ultrasonic (UT) testing of the tank heads revealed a minimum remaining thickness of
0.448 inch and an average thickness of 0.472 inch. The nominal thickness of the tank
heads (per data plate) is 0.438 inch.
Nozzles: It should be noted that this was an external inspection only and no inspection
of the internal nozzles was performed or required at this time.
The nozzles have random areas of coating failure with surface rust present, particularly
on the flange, bolts and threads. Consideration should be given to properly cleaning and
coating these details as necessary to minimize future corrosion.
The nozzles and coupling welds were found in acceptable condition based on Visual
(VT) inspection.
It should be noted that there is a sight gauge present for monitoring product level. This is
stated here for information only. Visual (VT) inspection of this device found it in
acceptable condition at this time.
Venting 1 Pressure Relief Device: The tank has a 6-inch pressure 1 vacuum vent
present working with 6-inch product nozzles (fill and service lines). It should also be
noted that there is a 2-inch vacuum relief line present. Visual (VT) inspection found
them in acceptable condition. Based on this information, tank venting appears to be
adequate.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Based on the recent operating history, the age of this vessel
and the results of this inspection, no changes in current operating practices for this
vessel are recommended at this time. Current operating temperature and pressure
limits can be maintained until the next out-of-service (internal) inspection, which should
be performed as soon as scheduling permits or at the next vessel outage, whichever
occurs first. In-service (external) inspection should be conducted at 5-year intervals.
R E E I V E D
NOERPTNE.00T REV 2 23262868 Tank VS-6104r(Rev 1) 1(OJT41:2(, j 014
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
DEPARTMENT
