Wendy L. Cohen
-2_ 26 January 1994
sampled for metals. In January 1992, Holly installed eight ground water monitoring wells
Peripheral to the wastewater and irrigation ponds at the site. No samples from these wells have
been analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons. Ground water ranges between three and 26 feet below
the ground surface, and the gradient is south-southeast.
Summary
A site assessment needs to get underway to determine the extent of the contamination caused by the
leaks and spills from the ASTs at the site. It is unclear from our files where the old corn syrup
plant, the old ASTs, and the existing AST are located. The monitoring wells which have already
been installed may or may not be in the proper position to sample and monitor ground water
affected by the AST contamination. A surface water drainage is immediately downgradient which
discharges into Old River. Holly needs to submit a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure
(SPCC) plan.
JMW: jmw/ldj
