Hazardous Waste Procedures
Once per week, preferably on Monday, the Paint Shop Foreman assures the oil / water separator is
cleaned. This involves removing the floating oil absorbent pads, wringing the accumulated oil from
them and replacing them in the separator. Any damaged pads are to be disposed of and replaced.
Also at this time, the Foreman assures the oil draining container is cleaned out. This container is where
drain pans and used oil filters are placed to drain. Used oil filters are to be put in a 55 gal. drum until the
drum is full. At this time, the filters will be crushed and placed in the solid waste tote for disposal.
As these duties are done weekly, the Foreman is to check all waste containers for proper labeling, that
all containers are covered and that the 90 day limit on accumulation is not exceeded.
Monthly, while performing the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan inspection, the Environmental
Manager shall inspect the hazardous waste containers to assure the above procedures are being followed.
