3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION (Continued) <br />--------------------------------------- <br />POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: <br />ROUTE(S) OF ENTRY ................... Inhalation; Skin Contact; Eye Contact; <br />Ingestion <br />HUMAN EFFECTS AND SYMPTOMS OF OVEREXPOSURE: <br />ACUTE INHALATION ..............: Inhalation of the amine may be irritating to <br />the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract with symptoms of coughing, <br />sore throat, and runny nose. This product contains a copper compound <br />(metallized azo dyestuff). Dusts and mists of copper salts/compounds can <br />result in nasal mucous membrane irritation. <br />ACUTE SKIN CONTACT ............: Contact with the amine may cause irritation <br />resulting in reddening, itching, and stinging. Some animal studies <br />indicate that alkanolamines may be absorbed through the skin. 1 <br />ACUTE EYE CONTACT .............: Contact with the amine can cause eye irritation <br />resulting in tearing, burning, itching and reddening, and swelling of the <br />eye and surrounding tissue and clouding of the cornea. <br />ACUTE INGESTION ...............: Ingestion of the amine may result in abdominal <br />pain, vomiting. and diarrhea. <br />CHRONIC EFFECTS OF EXPOSURE...: No applicable information was found concerning <br />any adverse chronic health effects due to overexposure from this product. <br />CARCINOGENICITY ...............: The components of this product are not listed <br />by NTP, IARC or regulated as a carcinogen by OSHA. <br />MEDICAL CONDITIONS <br />AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE......: Persons with preexisting eye, skin or <br />respiratory tract disorders may be more susceptible to the effects of this <br />product. <br />1 Occupational Health Services Material Safety Data Sheet <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />4. FIRST AID MEASURES: <br />FIRST AID FOR EYES......: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with <br />plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician. <br />FIRST AID FOR SKIN......: Flush skin with water. Wash clothing before reuse. <br />FIRST AID FOR INHALATION: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, <br />give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
