SECTION II
ADHESIVE CURE
Cure time is dependent on ambient temperature. External heat is
recommended for cure when ambient temperature is below 70`F.
Cure time at 75°F is 4 to 5 hours. For cure cycle curves, refer to the
instructions in the adhesive kits.
Use of external heat (such as hot air guns) will shorten the cure times
and is highly recommended for all installations where the tempera-
ture is below 70°F. External heat is essential for temperatures below
50°F.
Direct flames should not be used to cure the adhesive. Hot spots
may cause overheating of the adhesive resulting in a bad bond.
Pipe sections should not be handled or stressed until the glue line
has returned to ambient temperature.
Z
SECTION III
TESTING
Y-6" secondary containment piping can be pressure tested by in-
stalling an in-line tee with a pressure gauge in the 3/W' outlet of a
termination fitting (Figure 8). This test piping may be permanently
installed and used for future system tests or as an outlet for pressure
or leak detection devices. If the test piping is to be installed temporar-
ily, use care not to overtighten when installing the pipe threads.
Fiberglass threads may be damaged during removal if over-
tightened.
Smith Fiberglass recommends testing 3"-6" secondary containment
piping systems with air at pressures up to 10 psig. The low pressure
and low volume of secondary containment piping systems make this
air test a safe procedure if normal safety procedures are followed.
10 psiq
Precautions:
1. Avoid contact with the adhesive and hardener since they are
capable of causing skin and eye irritations. Gloves and eye pro-
tection are suggested. If contact is made, flush with water and
wash with soap and water. Although the hardener is only mildly
toxic, avoid inhaling fumes by working in well ventilated area.
2. Solvent containers may be under pressure. Use caution when
removing the inner seals. Eye protection is recommended.
Figure a
SM 1006 Printed In USA
