SITE CODE: 1090
640 N. EI Dorado Street
Stockton CA 95202
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the "Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report, 3rd Quarter 2001" dated
December 14, 2001 that was submitted by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. on your behalf and
has the following comments.
The report documents the quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling event that took
place at this site on September 21, 2001. For the second consecutive quarter, monitoring
well MW-3 could not be sampled due to the presence of floating free product. Analytical
results from the three perimeter wells were reported as non-detect for gasoline
constituents and fuel oxygenates, but positive for 1,2-dichloroethane in MWA and MW-4,
trichloroethene in MW-1, and chloroform and tetrachloroethene in all three wells.
The report recommends discontinuing analysis of groundwater samples for total lead from
all site wells, and for total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbon analysis in the three
perimeter wells. In addition, the report recommends continued periodic removal of floating
free product from MW-3. PHS/EHD agrees with these recommendations.
Site investigations completed to date have defined the extent of the soil contamination at
this site as being limited to above 36 feet below surface grade (bsg) in the vicinity of the
former underground storage tank (source area). The vertical extent of the groundwater
contamination has not been defined in the source area. The lateral extent of the
petroleum hydrocarbon and fuel oxygenate contamination to shallow groundwater has
been defined. The lateral extent of volatile organic compound contamination to
groundwater has not been defined.
Please prepare a work plan to complete the vertical and lateral extent of the contaminant
definition at this site, and to begin feasibility testing. The work plan is due February 25,
200), If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
l c, O t CZcwv.r. u`
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margar Lagod Supervising REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
John Lane, Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
