Charles H. Bloom Company, Inc.
September 2, 1988, 12176
Page 3
Y
bucket. The other soil sample was a three-way composite sample from the
stockpiled soils. The locations of the soil samples are shown on the
attached Site Sketch Map.
The water that accumulated in the open excavation was pumped out and
stored in a poly tank. Approximately 400 gallons of water was pumped
from the excavation into the tank. During the pumping, the water in the
excavation was never fully evacuated, however, the water level was
lowered such that groundwater was observed flowing into the excavation.
The soil samples were collected using a hand sampler which contained a
two-inch diameter, six-inch long brass liner. Prior to sampling, The
sampler and brass liners were cleaned with a trisodium phosphate solution,
rinsed with clean water and then deionized water. The soil samples were
rubber -capped, refrigerated and transported under chain--of-custody to the
analytical laboratory.
The water sample was retrieved from the pit excavation approximately one
hour after the pumping was completed. The sample was taken using a
teflon bailer cleaned as described for the brass tubes. The water sample
was transferred into glass containers which had been prepared by the
analytical laboratory. After the sample was obtained it was refrigerated
and transported under chain -of -custody control to the laboratory.
ANALYTICAL TESTING RESULTS
The analytical testing program consisted of the following analyses:
Test Name
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
("gasoline") with
Benzene, toluene, xylene,
ethylbenzene (BTXE)
EPA Test Method
5020/8015-5030/8015 (GUID)
8020/602
The analytical results of the second round of testing were all below
detection levels, excepting the water sample, which had detectable gasoline
(but not at quantifiable levels) and 25 parts per billion (ppb) xylenes.
The complete analytical test data, including the chain -of --custody record,
are presented in the attached Appendix A.
FTNniN(1S
The initial round of analytical testing by Precision Industries, of native
soils at the project site, discovered no detectable hydrocarbon
contamination. Nor did our second round of analytical testing of native
soils and backfill soils detect any hydrocarbons contamination.
Koldveer Associates
