The subsurface investigation was accomplished via seven monitoring wells (of
which one was paved over during the Fremont Street widening) .
In October of 1991 , Remediation Services of Pleasanton California installed a
vapor extraction well and manometer points near the location where the underground
gasoline storage tank had been removed. The vapor extraction well was operated until
four 220 pound carbon beds were saturated. The four carbon beds became saturated very
quickly and it became clear to me that the use of carbon beds was going to be much too
expensive as a vapor remediation technique. We then terminated the carbon bed
remediation and began a search for a more economical approach.
On June 3 , 1993, we had our existing monitoring wells sounded by Don Light of
Del Tech Services of Oakdale, California. Our deepest well had a tiny amount of water,
and all others were still dry (they were first determined to be dry in June of 1991).
Information from the well sounding is shown below:
MW Number Well Diameter Well Depth Depth to Water OVM Reading
I
2 4" 67.07 No Water 19 PPM
3 2" 64.96 No Water 2 PPM
4 2" 67.60 No Water 3 PPM
5 2" 69. 50 No Water 74 PPM
6 2" 70.05 69.93 3 PPM
7 2" 69.01 No Water 3 PPM
k'
