NVIi
9fATpa c h e
APACHE PLASTICS, L. P. °4 NOV 18 Py 2 n
f 2050 E. Fremont St. • P.O. Box 5127 • Stockton, CA 95205=0127 ® 2091466, i * 8001527=2243 • FAX1091466-1730
Mrs, Diane Hinson
Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 0388
Stockton, CA 95201 -0388
November 11 , 1994
Dear Mrs. Hinson,
Please find the enclosed third quarter report for the Apache Plastics remediation
process which was prepared for Apache by Upgradient Environmental Consultants.
Unfortunately, a good part of the quarter was spent learning how to operate equipment,
making repairs to the equipment, exchanging equipment, modifying the vapor extraction
system (several minor modifications) and developing the vapor extraction wells.
During the third quarter, the wells were very tight causing the flow to be limited (12-46
CFM) with vapor concentration levels ranging between 600 and 2, 500 PPM (using
Upgradient' s PID).
I am excited about the progess we are making in the fourth quarter, in that we cleared
the shallow well (by vacuuming the sand out of the pipe) on about the third of October,
which has increased the flow to between 140 and 162 CFM with vapor concentrations
between 5,800 PPM and 13 ,000 PPM on Upgradient' s PID during the weekly
monitorings.
Shortly after the shallow well was cleared, the vapor concentration jumped to 13,000
PPM. The following week it dropped to 11 ,000 PPM, then the following week it dropped
to 102000 PPM, then just yesterday to 5,900 PPM.
I personally believe that pulling approximately 1 , 000,000 cubic feet of air and vapor
per week, for about three weeks, has made an impact on the hydrocarbon contamination.
We will be attempting to clear the deep well in the same manner (vacuuming out the
sand) today during a maintenance shutdown, as a previous attempt only temporarily
loosened it up . Hopefully, we will be able to increase the flow overall, or alternate wells
during vapor extraction.
