13 May 2010
AGE-NC Project No. 07- 1529
Utilizing a truck-mounted compact sonic drill rig equipped with 1 .25-inch diameter hollow push
rods, AGE proposes to advance three soil borings to inject a calculated volume ofRegenOxTM slurry
into the ground water slightly up gradient of well VEW-2 at a range of depths between 45 feet bsg
and 55 feet bsg
Three injection points located up-gradient of well MW-9 are proposed within private property
boundaries and will be installed between five and ten from the well due to physical restrictions
(Figure 3) .
Three injection points are also proposed within private property boundaries near well VEW-2 and
will be installed between five and ten from the well, due to physical restrictions (Figure 3).
Before application of the RegenOxTM slurry in the areas near wells MW-9 and VEW-2, each batch
of RegenOxrm slurry will be mixed in accordance with manufacturer' s recommendations and
specifications (Appendix B). Each 30-pound bucket of RegenOxTM Part A and Part B will be mixed
with a specified volume of water in a 55-gallon drum. Mixture composition and media ratio will be
determined in consultation with Regenesis prior to mobilization and application. Typical mixtures
range between 3 to 5% Part A and 3 to 5% Part B to water, depending on the conductivity of the sub-
surface formation. It is expected the injections in the VEW-2 area will have a higher percentage of
solids due to the surrounding silty formation.
Tap water will be used for the RegenOxTM slurry and will be metered into the holding tank using a
Sensus PMM® water meter. Once the RegenOxTM media is added to the measured amount of water,
a portable drill fitted with a paddle mixer will be used to mix the RegenOxTM slurry into the desired
consistency.
A Geoprobe(l pressure activated injection tip will be attached to the push rods and advanced to the
target depth. Upon reaching the target depth, the RegenOxTM slurry will be prepared. AGeoprobeg
GS-2000 grout injection system (Appendix B) will be connected to the top of the uppermost push
rod. Batches of the RegenOxTM slurry will be placed in the Geoprobe® GS-2000 grout injection
system hopper and injected into ground water at targeted depths.
The push rods equipped with the Geoprobe® pressure activated injection tip will be advanced to
targeted deepest depth at each location in a bottom-up injection strategy. The RegenOxTM slurry will
be injected at a relatively slow rate estimated between two to five gallons per minute (gpm). The rate
of injection will be adjusted as field conditions dictate. After injection of a specified volume of
RegenOxTM slurry at each targeted depth (near well MW-9 : between 85 feet bsg to 105 feet bsg and
near well VEW-2: between 45 feet bsg and 55 feet bsg), the probe assembly will be retracted to the
next targeted level in a bottom-up injection strategy to allow for ground water displacement. The
injection time of the RegenOxTM slurry at each level will be calculated prior to mobilization, depend
on the injection back-pressure observed in the field and be adjusted based upon field conditions.
Advanced GeoEnvironmentaL Inc.
