July 27,2001 <br /> Project No 2005-2050-01 <br /> page 4 <br /> • Groundwater samples were collected using the HydropunchTm technique Water samples <br /> were collected by pushing the HydropunchTM sampler with 2-inch diameter steel rods to <br /> the bottom of the borehole The CPT operator subsequently pulled up on the steel rods, <br /> exposing a 4-foot long PVC screen at the desired sampling interval Samples were <br /> collected by lowering a metal bailer within the steel rods Groundwater was collected in <br /> the bailer and placed in glass sample containers containing a hydrochloric acid <br /> preservative Following collection, the samples were placed in an ice-chilled cooler <br /> Each sample was appropriately labeled and identified on a chain-of-custody form <br /> Groundwater sampling intervals are included on the borehole sampling logs presented in <br /> Appendix B <br /> Soil samples were collected by driving a 1 7-inch diameter sampler equipped with two <br /> pre-cleaned 1 25-inch diameter by 6-inch long brass sleeves into undisturbed soil <br /> Additional sleeves of soil collected at each sampling interval were field screened for <br /> volatile organic compounds using a photoionization detector (PID) The soil samples <br /> were also classified using the Unified Soil Classification System The lowermost intact <br /> sample from each interval was retained for possible analysis The sample ends were <br /> covered with Teflon TM sheets and tight fitting plastic caps Once labeled and sealed, the <br /> samples were placed in an ice-chilled cooler Each sample was identified on a chain-of- <br /> custody form which followed the sample to the analyzing laboratory Soil sampling <br /> intervals, soil descriptions, and PID readings are included on the borehole log presented <br /> • in Appendix B <br /> Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc was unable to advance the soil and groundwater <br /> samplers to the desired depths in all borings The groundwater sampler encountered <br /> refusal at 52 feet bgs at CPT-9 and 113 feet at CPT-10 The soil sampler encountered <br /> refusal at 113 feet bgs at CPT-10 and at 83 feet bgs at CPT-12 At CPT-6, the soil <br /> sampler was broken at 131 feet bgs The bong was subsequently terminated At CPT- <br /> 11, the soil sampler was broken at 127 feet bgs An additional borehole was advanced <br /> directly adjacent to the other three boreholes to collect soil samples at 130 and 139 feet <br /> bgs <br /> GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br /> Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc advanced three soil bongs using 8-inch diameter <br /> hollow stem augers to depths ranging from approximately 110 to 115 feet bgs under the <br /> direction of a Stratus geologist The soil borings were converted to 2-inch diameter <br /> groundwater monitoring wells (MW-10 through MW-12) The locations of the wells are <br /> shown on Figure 2 Monitoring wells MW-10 and MW-11 were constructed using 10 <br /> feet of 0 02-inch diameter factory slotted PVC casing set from approximately 99 5 to <br /> 109 5 feet bgs Monitoring well MW-12 was constructed using 15 feet of 0 02-inch <br /> diameter factory slotted PVC casing and set from approximately 100 to 115 feet bgs A <br /> filter pack of#3 Monterrey sand was placed in the annular space around the well from the <br /> bottom of the well screen to 1 5 to 2 5 feet above the top of the well screen Two to three <br /> feet of bentonite was placed on top of the filter pack to provide a sanitary seal for the <br /> C Traject Files\Apache Plashcs\Reports\Apache Soil&GW 072001A doe <br />
