1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
A 1,000-gallon unleaded gasoline underground storage tank (UST), piping and dispenser
island were removed from the property at 2050 W. Fremont Street in August 1992. The
results of tank closure and soil sampling were published by Kroeker Environmental Services
on August 27, 1992.
Earth Tech was not present during the excavation, tank removal, and subsequent sampling.
The owner of the property at the time reported that the tank appeared to be in good
r condition.
Samples collected from the bottom of the tank excavation by Twinings Laboratory
' indicated residual hydrocarbons in the soil, as summarized in Table 1.
`s
TABLE i
Resullts of Soil Analysis Sampled Collected 8/20152•
SOIL SAMPLE DEPTH BTEX (uglkg) NPH-GASOLINE MTBE (ug/kg)
(FEET) (ug/kg)
S-1 (North Bottom) 11 None Detected None Detected Not Analyzed
S-2 (South Bottom) 11 Benzene - ND 500 Not Analyzed
Toluene - 37
Ethylbenzene - 46
Xylenes - 85
CS-1 (Stockpile) =- None Detected None Detected Not Analyzed
*Source: Kroeker, 1982
1.2 SCOPE OF WORK
The San Joaquin Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD1 requested
a subsurface investigation be performed to evaluate the extent of petroleum impacted soil
from the. former UST, evaluate the need for remedial action, and to provide data that may
- be used for site closure.
A detailed scope of work was presented in Earth Tech's Work Plan for Additional
Subsurface Investigation in the Vicinity of the Former. 1,000-gallon Gasoline Tank at the
National Advertising Company Facility, 2050 W. Fremont Street, Stockton, CA 95205,
included in Appendix A. The propo sd d scope of work was approved by the PHS/EHD on
February 12, 1998.
i
RREE
