Work Plan For Excavation of Soil @ Chevron Station #9-5575
July 16, 1998
hydrocarbon impact will be stockpiled onsite separately from other soil (backfill material) and
covered with plastic sheeting pending analytical data. Should analytical results indicate that the
compliance samples do not contain hydrocarbon impact, this task will not be implemented.
Task 2. Disposition of Stockpiled Soil
If pea gravel was used as the backfill around the USTs, it will be stockpiled separately onsite and
inspected for visible signs of liquid hydrocarbons. If liquid hydrocarbons are not present,
Chevron proposes to re -use the pea gravel as backfill material without further characterization.
Should the backfill material be sand or soil it will be stockpiled separately onsite and the
appropriate samples collected and analyzed for characterization. Depending on sample results
Chevron may elect to re -use the material onsite as backfill. If necessary, the sand or soil may
be aerated onsite and then re -used as backfill material. Should the soil be aerated onsite, the
appropriate permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control District
(SJUAPCD). Concurrence will be obtained from SJCPHS prior to re -using any sand or soil as
backfill onsite. In the event the sand or soil backfill material is not re -used onsite, Chevron will
arrange for proper transportation to a licensed landfill for disposal.
PROJECT STAFF
Mr. Ricky L. Fears, a Registered Geologist in the State of California (R.G. No. 6728), will provide
technical oversight and review of the work. Mr. Greg A. Gurss, Senior Project Manager, will
supervise implementation of field and office operations. GR employs a staff of geologists, engineers,
and technicians who will assist with the project.
If you have questions, please call us in Sacramento at (916) 631-1300.
Sincerely,
Gettler-Ryan Inc.
Gre A.
