These
hazards include mechanical, electrical, chemical, acoustical, biological,
and temperature hazards. Those hazards associated with confined spaces are
not anticipated to occur, and are not discussed.
3.1 Mechanical Hazard
The following procedures shall be followed during all phases of the
operation to reduce those risks associated with mechanical equipment:
* Stay well clear of drill rods and augers while they are
rotating and being hoisted. Extreme care is to be exercised
when steel cables are being used to lift the drilling
apparatus from the ground.
* Stand clear of the operating circle of excavators, backhoes,
etc.
* Equipment maintenance schedules are the responsibility of each
individual contractor. Equipment is to be checked daily. Any
equipment deemed by a Musco Excavators employee to be in an
unsafe state of repairs, or operated in an unsafe manner shall
be shut down until corrective action is taken. Equipment
safety features, such as back-up alarms, shall be checked
daily.
Electrical Hazards
The following procedures shall be followed during all phases of operation,
in order to reduce those risks associated with electrical hazards:
* Underground Service Alert (1-800-422-4133) will be contacted
prior to site activities to locate the presence of underground
cables, ut_lity lines, pipes, and storage vessels at the
proposed sites where soil borings will be placed.
