Health and Safety Plan <br />Page 10 <br />5.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br />All respiratory protective equipment must be approved by the National <br />Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)/Mine Safety and Health <br />Administration (MSHA). The minimum protective equipment requirements for <br />each site task shall be Level D. However, should airborne monitoring <br />indicate organic vapors consistently in excess of 1-2 ppm, the level of <br />protection shall be upgraded to Level C1. If monitoring indicates organic <br />vapors consistently in excess of 5 ppm, the level of protection shall be <br />upgraded to Level C2. <br />5.1 Levels of Protection <br />5.1.1 Level D Protection <br />The following personal protection equipment is required to be worn by all <br />on-site personnel: <br />* Poly/cotton reusable coveralls or long sleeve shirts and long <br />pants <br />* Steel toe boot/shoes <br />* Ear plugs or muffs <br />* Hard hat <br />* Nitrile gloves (if contact with potentially -contaminated <br />soil or water is expected) <br />* Safety glasses <br />* Neoprene or butyl rubber boots or latex boot covers (if <br />contact with potentially -contaminated soil or water is <br />expected) <br />5.1.1.a Level C1 Protection <br />* One-half or full face respirator with high efficiency <br />organic vapor cartridges with dust filter <br />5.1.2 Level C Protection <br />* Cloth coveralls <br />* Steel -toed boots with waterproof covers, or steel -toed rubber <br />boots <br />* Hard hat <br />
