Overexposure to hazardous <br />chemicals requires immediate <br />attention <br />Here are a few general rules to follow: <br />• Corrosive chemical splash: remove <br />/ contaminated clothing. Rinse skin <br />with water for 15 minutes. <br />_ • Splash in the eyes: flush with lots of <br />water for at least 15 minutes, includ- <br />ing under the lids. <br />• Inhalation: get into fresh air immediately. <br />Artificial respiration may be needed. <br />Don't take chances. Get prompt medical 0 <br />attention immediately, even if you feel OK. <br />There may be delayed health effects. <br />14 <br />What makes a material <br />hazardous? <br />Simply put, it's hazardous if it can cause <br />harm to people or the environment. <br />It can be: <br />CORROSIVE - <br />burns skin or eyes on contact <br />EXPLOSIVE <br />FLAMMABLE <br />catches fire easily <br />46* RADIOACTIVE <br />REACTIVE— <br />burns, explodes, or releases toxic <br />vapors if exposed to other chemicals, <br />heat, air, or water <br />TOXIC - <br />causes illness or possibly death <br />Hazardous materials don't have to be dangerous <br />if you handle them properly. <br />C 1 <br />O <br />1 <br />—�' - <br />If you are overexposed to a hazardous <br />substance, get prompt medical attention. <br />" <br />Check the MSDS for first aid instructions. <br />And don't spread the contaminants. <br />ACT FAST.
