S zC •s'o335? <br /> Dear Sir: 0a by. <br /> The owners of Sun West Liquors have retained Foothill Engineering to develop and supervise a Work <br /> Plan to determine the extent of the gasoline contamination discovered during the removal of the LIST <br /> and related piping on the site. The Underground Storage Tanks were removed by Jinn Thorpe Oil <br /> on July 2, 1998, under the supervision of the PHS/EHD (see permits attached). <br /> Results of Tank Removal Soil Samples <br /> At the time of removal, seven tank excavation soil samples were extracted. These samples were <br /> analyzed by GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc. of Modesto, California. Each tank excavation sample <br /> was analyzed by EPA Method 8028, 7420, 5030/LUFT, and 8260 for gasoline. Two of the tank <br /> excavation samples were determined to be above the detection limit (see Summary of Analysis <br /> attached). Sample TK3 S-14'was high in both BTEX and TPHg. <br /> Results of Dispenser Piping Soil Samples <br /> Seven soil samples were removed from under dispenser piping. Two of these soil samples indicated <br /> very low levels of BTEX. Three of these samples were above the detection level for MTBE. <br /> THE PROPOSED"V'1✓'ORK PLAN <br /> Drilling and Sampling <br /> Foothill Engineering proposes to place and sample five pushbores as shown on the Site Pian attached. <br /> Each pushbore will terminate at an elevation five feet below the existing water table, unless <br /> terminated before that elevation by the mutual agreement of the PHS/EHD and the Engineer. <br /> Standard AX sample tubes will be used to contain the soil. Samples will be extracted starting at ten <br /> feet below the surface and continuing at four or five foot intervals depending on the type of <br /> equipment used. Water samples will be extracted by the grab sample method when water is <br /> encountered. Monitoring well installation is not planed under is Work Plan. <br /> Sample Analysis <br /> Samples will be transported under ice to an approved state certified laboratory for analysis. Samples <br /> will be analyzed by EPA methods 8020(BETX), and 5030/LUFT(TPH Gasoline). Samples selected <br /> by the PHS/l HD inspector on the site will be analyzed for oxygenates by EPA method 8260. Soil <br /> samples will not be analyzed for lead, as tank pull samples indicate that none of the contaminated <br /> areas contain lead above detectable levels.
