The tanks were approximataly 30 years c'd, constructed of steel and were resting 12 feet ( ft) below the surface. Neither tank was in contact with ground water. The diameter of each tank was 8 ft and estimated to be between 12 and 15 ft long. The orientation of the tanks was east ft sevara*ion existing between west, end to end, with a 3 them. The location of the tanks was approximately 50 ft south of the baking facility' s main building. A concrat< nad containing acsolij,sa pumps is present directly north of the excavation site. The pumps are used to'dispRnse gasoline from an acLi-.e underground gasoline tank located between the building and ~.� excavation site. The act4ve tank is located to the northeast of the excavated tank location. The entire area surrounding the former 'pan{ location is pA.ved with asphalt, axed following removal operations, the axcava�ion site was similarly rapaved ! ' with asphalt. An open field is located approximately 100 ft i south of the former tank site. } Of the two underground tanks, the west tank contained gasoline 1986, Ho:+ever, the east tank, which and was operably 'chrough also previously contained gasoline, had been decommissioned and subsequently filled with sand. The fill tubes were located in the center of the tank (Anheuser-Busch, personal communication ) . Testing other than inventory reconciliation had not been done prier to December, 19E6.
