However, if you compare the depth -to -groundwater measurements at this site with
analytical results for diesel, there appears to be high concentrations of diesel detected when the groundwater is
around 15 to 20 feet below surface grade (bsg). Currently groundwater is at about 23 feet bsg. I believe the
diesel problem will have to be addressed before this site can be closed.
The former Chevron gasoline station at 139 South Center Street has high concentrations for gas and BTEX in
groundwater collected from monitoring wells located in the area of the former USTs. A new monitoring well was
installed in November 2007, screened at 100 to 105 feet bsg. Results from the first groundwater sampling of
this well indicate that gas and BTEX are detected in low concentrations. Diesel and motor oil are detected in
most of the monitoring wells at this site. 1,2 -DCA is being detected at low concentrations only in MW -3. No
remediation has taken place since the USTs were removed in 2003.
The site at 308 EI Dorado Street; Den's Auto Repair, has high concentrations for gas, BTEX, and 1,2 -DCA. The
vertical and lateral delineation of the plume is undefined. Additional site investigation is needed as well as
interim remediation.
The Earthgrains Baking Companies site at 2650 Airport Way is undergoing additional site investigation. Four
CPT -MIP borings have been advanced to approximately 100 feet bsg in the last two days. Soil and grab
groundwater samples will also be collected during this investigation. Remediation will follow.
The site at 106 (not 160) Second Street, Ripon, just had soil gas samples collected. Groundwater
collected during the first quarter 2008 indicate that only two monitoring wells have detects, and the
concentrations are low. I'm hoping we can close this site soon.
Vicki McCartney, Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
600 East Main Street
Stockton, California 95202
Phone: (209)468-9852
Fax: (209) 468-3433
Email: vmccartney@sjcehd.com
From: Kirk Larson[mailto:KTLarson@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 10:14 AM
To: vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Cc: Margaret Lagorio [EH].
Subject: Site Reviews
Good Morning Vicki:
4/2/2008
