Airport Way
Stockton, CA
FEB 0 l 19924,
SITS CODE: 19093
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the work plan for installation of
additional monitoring wells dated January 18, 1994, prepared by
Burlington Environmental for the above referenced site.
The work plan proposes the installation of 50 foot of screened
casing and 25 foot of blank casing in five 75 foot borings.
Typically screened casing is limited to 20 feet in monitoring wells
(10-15 feet of screen below first water and 5-10 feet of screen
above first water). PHS/EHD understands that these wells may be
used for remediation and will permit the installation of longer
screen lengths based on field observations at the time of drilling.
For instance, if there is odor and discoloration to the soil or
instrument readings that indicate soil contamination, a longer
screened interval above first water to accommodate vapor extraction
would be justifiable.
Although PHS/EHD will allow the installation of 20 foot of screen
below first water, please be advised that water samples may be
considered diluted and sample results not accurately representative
of the site groundwater by PHS/EHD and Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board with 20 foot of water in the casing.
The work plan did not discuss thenumber or interval of soil
samples that would be analyzed. PHS/EHD recommends that in order
to demonstrate that contaminants are not remaining in the soil from
35 foot (depth to first water in 1986) to 55 foot (current depth to
first water) that soil samples from this interval be analyzed in
each boring.
The laboratory that would be analyzing the soil and groundwater
samples was not identified in the work plan, but PHS/EHD has been
notified that they will be analyzed by Curtis and Tompkins
Laboratory.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
