Subject: Quick Question on Well Abandonment Overdrilling.vs Pressure Grouting In -Place
Good morning. Nuel and Vicki
For the Airport Way and Center Street projects, I had initially planned on over drilling all
wells.
Then, I noticed that the San Joaquin County Well Standards guidelines stated that if the
well's most recent lab results were non -detect for the" onstituents of concern that the
well could be pressure grouted "in-place" and that only the top 3 feet would,.be over
drilled.
Therefore, I have evaluated the laboratory for all wells at both sites and determined
which ones could be grouted in-place and which ones should be over drilled.
Although, I am° curious about the pros and cons betweenthe two procedures regarding
non -detect wells.
From your perspective, is there any additional benefit for our client to over drill those
non -detect wells versus grouting in-place?
Obviously, grouting in-place. is much less expensive, but would having the majority of
the well casing remain in-piace.(even though it's grouted) be a possible burden to our
client in the future from the agency's perspective?
About Y2 half of the wells for both sites; have been historically or consistently non -detect.
Thank you and I appreciate your input.
Paul Anderson
PSC -QA Director/ Project Manager
210 West Sand Bank Road
Columbia, It., 62236
Office: (618) 281-1543
Cell: (618) 406-0823 -
Fax: (6.18) 281-7020 '
panderson(,pscNow _com
New email Address is:
pawl andeison_na.pscnow corn
2/27/201.2
