I
2 INVESTIGATION SCOPE OF WORK
EHD's January 9, 2004 letter requested that additional site investigation be performed
to assess the extent and magnitude of residual petroleum hydrocarbon impact In
particular, EHD directed that the following activities be performed
• Estimation of the contaminant mass in the vadose zone,
• Assessment of the vertical extent of impacted groundwater,
• Collection of a groundwater sample from a nearby irrigation well,
• Analysis of samples for 1,2-DCA and EDB, in addition to TPH-G, BTEX and
typical oxygenate compounds and,
• Collection of groundwater samples from all of the site wells
I2.1. Work Plan
The February 20, 2004 work plan proposed six borings be driven utilizing a
CPT rig to collect soil samples for analysis for an estimate of the mass of
residual impact in the vadose zone Soil samples would be collected to the
maximum depth of 35 feet The groundwater table at this site occurs at a depth
of about 37 to 40 feet Further discussion with EHD indicated their preference
for a seventh boring, which PSC agreed to
1 The work plan proposed that three of the borings be extended to a maximum
depth of 80 feet to collect discrete groundwater samples at specified depths to
assess the vertical extent of petroleum impact Laboratory analysis would be
performed to analyze for required compounds Further discussion with EHD
indicated their preference that the borings be extended deeper than the
proposed 80 feet PSC and EHD mutually agreed to a depth of 100 feet
Groundwater samples from all of the site wells were proposed to be collected
for subsequent laboratory analysis Finally, the work plan indicated that if site
access could be obtained that a groundwater sample would be collected from a
nearby off-site irrigation well for analysis
2.2 June 2004 Field Activities
Prior to performing field activities, PSC obtained the necessary EHD permit to
drill and collect groundwater samples from site borings Following permit
receipt, PSC and our subcontracted driller, Gregg In Situ Inc of Martinez,
California, mobilized to the site on June 21, 2004 to perform the subsurface
,G investigation
7
June 2004 Site investigation Report
The Earthgrains Company Facility
2651 South Airport Way-Stockton,California
Prepared for SARA LEE BAKING GROUP Prepared by Philip Services Corp
H\FW62400132ll 213g2EG\Stocktan'June 2004 rnv bgatmn Repast&c August 9,2004
