2.2.3 Groundwater Sampling In Borings
Borings CPT-A, CPT-C and CPT-F were extended deeper, within the
saturated zone, to collect discrete groundwater samples at specified
depths PSC and EHD agreed that groundwater samples be collected at
10-feet intervals from depths of 60 to 100 feet
Groundwater samples were collected using a Hydropunch type
sampler This sampler operates by advancing 1 3/4-inch diameter
hollow rods with a closed screen section situated in the bottom rod At
the specified sample depth, the rods were retracted a short distance
1 exposing the screen section and allowing groundwater entry A small
diameter bailer was lowered through the rods into the screen section to
collect the groundwater sample The bailer was retrieved to the surface
where PSC's geologist emptied its contents into laboratory provided
glass containers Following each collection, the rods were retrieved to
the surface where they were decontaminated and prepared for the next
I sampling event At the termination of sampling, each borehole was
properly abandoned by filling it with grout
1 It was occasionally observed that groundwater entry into the screen
was insufficient to collect a groundwater sample PSC was not able to
collect a 60 feet depth sample from CPT-A, an 80 feet depth sample
from CPT-C, and 70 and 80 feet depth samples from CPT-F
Sample containers were capped, labeled and stored in an iced chest for
subsequent chain-of-custody delivery to STL Groundwater samples
were analyzed for TPH-G, BTEX, TBA, MTBE, ETBE, TAME, ,T'67
DCA and EDB
1
2.2.4 Monitoring Well Sampling
Groundwater samples were collected on June 21 and Tune 24 from
twenty of the site's monitoring wells (MW's), air sparging wells
(SP's) and piezometers (PZ's) Well SP-3 was not sampled because of
a truck parked over its location Well depths, groundwater levels and
the potential presence of free gasoline product were measured in each
well prior to sampling There was no free product observed at any
location
Wells were purged a minimum of three volumes of groundwater with a
dedicated bailer in order to collect a representative sample Following
purging, samples were retrieved to the surface and placed in laboratory
I provided containers These containers were capped, labeled and stored
in an iced chest for chain-of-custody delivery to STL Groundwater
9
June 2004 Site Investigation Report
The Eartllgrams Company Facility
2651 South Airport Way-Stockton,California
Prepared for SARA LEE BAKING GROUP Prepared by Philip Services Corp
H\ENV1624001321121382EG1StocktonUune 2004]nvestigatwn Report doe August 9,2004
