21
4 LABORATORY RESULTS
This chapter provides a summary of laboratory results for soil and groundwater
' samples that were collected during this project's field activities Soil sample results include
those that were measured during the chemical-analytical, physical, and microbiological tests
1
4.1 Soil Sample Analytical Results
1
The 14 soil samples that were submitted for chemical analysis were selected to
' evaluate the extent and magnitude of potentially hydrocarbon-impacted soil Samples were
also selected based on a request by the PHS/EHD to analyze soil between the depths of 35 to
55 feet BGS, which corresponds to depth to first groundwater in 1986 and current depth to
' groundwater, respectively
As shown on Table 3, Soil Sample Analytical Results, only one of the 14 samples
c
contained measurable hydrocarbon concentrations The 60-foot-depth soil sample from
Borehole MW-13, collected dust below the groundwater table, contained a benzene
concentration of 10 micrograms per kilogram (µg/kg) Soil sample laboratory analytical
reports are contained in Appendix D
4.2 Soil Sample Physical Test Results
' Four soil samples from boreholes MW-9 25 feet BGS), MW-10 (35 feet), and
MW-11 (45 and 55 feet) were submitted to Burlington's materials laboratory for grain size
analysis Test results are included in Appendix E, and summarized on Table 4
Grain size analyses indicate that the samples from boreholes MW-9 and MW-10 are
relatively fine-grained (clay) since 95 to 96 percent of their soils passed a #200-screen sieve
' The samples from borehole MW-11 have more size gradation, and can be characterized as
clayey sands
04/94/121382/125997/STOCKREP REP/i
1
