3 SYSTEM OPERATION AND MONITORING PROCEDURE <br /> 3.1 Description of Operation <br /> The initial phase of site remediation will be soil venting After installation <br /> and preliminary system checkout, air sparging will be started The soil <br /> venting blowers will be the controlling piece of equipment for the <br /> remediation system System controls will not permit the operation of the <br /> 1 sparge compressors if the venting blower is not operating Venting blower <br /> failure will activate an audible and visible alarm outside of the trailer <br /> Vapor samples will be collected during startup operation to monitor inlet <br /> concentrations to the vapor treatment equipment An in-line valve will be <br /> opened or closed to adjust the flow of vapor from the individual vent wells <br /> Sparging will be initiated after venting flow and vapor concentrations have <br /> begun to stabilize <br /> After startup completion, the system will be operated in an automatic <br /> mode, controlled by the operation of the venting blowers <br /> 3.2 General System Monitoring/Maintenance <br /> /Maintenance <br /> Y g <br /> General system monitoring will consist of recording venting and sparging <br /> flow rates, pressures at the blowers, ground water levels, well pressures, <br /> and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations at several monitoring points <br /> System maintenance will include visually inspecting piping connections and <br /> mechanical equipment, lubricating equipment according to manufacturer's <br /> recommendations, and periodically testing the control functions <br /> Bl-monthly site visits will be performed to maintain equipment Facility <br /> personnel will be instructed to check for the audible and visual blower <br /> alarm <br /> 3.3 Vapor Sampling and Analysis <br />' The purpose of vapor sampling is to monitor site remediation and the <br /> effectiveness of the venting and sparging system Composite vapor <br /> samples will be collected bi-monthly and vapor samples will be collected <br /> from the individual vent wells monthly for the first three months of system <br /> operation After three months, composite vapor samples will be collected <br /> monthly and samples from the individual wells will be collected quarterly <br /> Final Remediation Plan <br /> Prepared for RAuvBO BAKING ComPANY 7 Prepared by Burlington Environmental Inc <br /> E\12I382U25997\TESTEVAL DOC 211/95 <br />
