3 SYSTEM OPERATION AND MONITORING PROCEDURE
3.1 Description of Operation
The initial phase of site remediation will be soil venting After installation
and preliminary system checkout, air sparging will be started The soil
venting blowers will be the controlling piece of equipment for the
remediation system System controls will not permit the operation of the
1 sparge compressors if the venting blower is not operating Venting blower
failure will activate an audible and visible alarm outside of the trailer
Vapor samples will be collected during startup operation to monitor inlet
concentrations to the vapor treatment equipment An in-line valve will be
opened or closed to adjust the flow of vapor from the individual vent wells
Sparging will be initiated after venting flow and vapor concentrations have
begun to stabilize
After startup completion, the system will be operated in an automatic
mode, controlled by the operation of the venting blowers
3.2 General System Monitoring/Maintenance
/Maintenance
Y g
General system monitoring will consist of recording venting and sparging
flow rates, pressures at the blowers, ground water levels, well pressures,
and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations at several monitoring points
System maintenance will include visually inspecting piping connections and
mechanical equipment, lubricating equipment according to manufacturer's
recommendations, and periodically testing the control functions
Bl-monthly site visits will be performed to maintain equipment Facility
personnel will be instructed to check for the audible and visual blower
alarm
3.3 Vapor Sampling and Analysis
' The purpose of vapor sampling is to monitor site remediation and the
effectiveness of the venting and sparging system Composite vapor
samples will be collected bi-monthly and vapor samples will be collected
from the individual vent wells monthly for the first three months of system
operation After three months, composite vapor samples will be collected
monthly and samples from the individual wells will be collected quarterly
Final Remediation Plan
Prepared for RAuvBO BAKING ComPANY 7 Prepared by Burlington Environmental Inc
E\12I382U25997\TESTEVAL DOC 211/95
