The contingency plan provides an approach to address the
groundwater pollution at monitoring wells (MWs) 5R and 6, which at the time of plan submittal were
not being captured by the groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS). The QMR presents
results of the May 2000 groundwater monitoring event. My comments on these documents are
presented below.
Contingency Plan
The plan proposed the following approach:
1. Maintain the GWETS and optimize pumping to maximize the capture area.
2. Continue quarterly monitoring of the southern extent of the capture area for at least two years.
3. If concentrations do not show a decreasing trend after two years, conduct soil gas sampling to
identify potential source areas near MWs 5R and 6.
4. Plan remedial action depending on the outcome of the soil gas survey.
The contingency plan is hereby approved.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0i Recycled Paper
