Isorena
Subject: Additional Hydropunch Groundwater Sampling
Applied Aerospace Structures Corporation Facility
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Isorena:
Per your request in your letter of October 13, 1998, addressed to Mr. Werner Sicvol, BP Oil
Company, Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons) has performed additional groundwater
sampling with the objective of further delineating the extent of contamination to the north of
the Former Hazardous Materials/Waste Storage Area. On November 2 and 3, four borings
were drilled along the north property line in the vicinity of MW -9. A groundwater sample was
collected from the bottom of each boring at 50 to 55 feet below the ground surface using a
HydropunchTM drive point apparatus. The samples were analyzed for, chlorinated VOCs and
the results are summarized in Table 1.
Concentrations of the chemicals of concern in the vicinity of the source area are also depicted
on Figure 1 along with the most recent groundwater sampling results. The values shown for
monitoring wells Ore preliminary results from the fourth quarterly sampling completed on
November 19, 1998. The figure indicates that the results from the current boring
HydropunchTM samples are generally compatible with results from MW -9 and MW -3, the result
from B-111 being somewhat higher. Our recent letter report regarding capture zone simulation
(Parsons, December 4, 1998), indicates that MW -9 and the new borings are contained within
the probable capture zone that would be created by pumping the groundwater extraction wells.
Please call me at (510) 891-9085 or contact Mr. Werner Sicvol at (216) 586-5605 if you have
any questions or require clarification.
Very truly yours,
PARSONS E ERING SCIENCE, INC.
Frederick C. intzer, C.E.G.
Project Manager
Enclosed: Table 1 and Figure 1
cc: Mr. Werner Sicvol, BP Oil Co.
Mr. Lon Kitagawa, Applied Aerospace Structures Corp.
PUNCHLET 12/10/98
KJPARSONS
