Draft FMS Work Plan 40 - 2 - . 28 January 2010 <br />3. Central Valley Water Board staff did not review the Health and Safety Plan (HASP) <br />attached to the Work Plan. CANG and their consultant (Oneida Total Integrated <br />Enterprises) are responsible for maintaining a safe working environment during the <br />proposed well installations and quarterly groundwater monitoring. <br />SPECIFIC COMMENTS <br />Page 7, Sections 3.3 and 3.4: The Work Plan proposes to collect soil samples "at 5 -foot <br />intervals to the depth at which groundwater is encountered during well installation." It is <br />unclear how frequently CANG intends to collect soil samples at or below the anticipated <br />top of the water table. Central Valley Water Board staff recommends sampling more <br />frequently than 5 -foot intervals when CANG has advanced each boring near the top of <br />the water table (approx 40 feet below ground surface). The proposed monitoring wells <br />are the first ones that will be installed at the FMS site, so more frequent sampling is <br />warranted for logging each boring and selecting optimal well screen intervals. Revise the <br />Work Plan to clearly state how each boring will be sampled for logging purposes when <br />CANG approaches the anticipated top of the local water table. <br />2. Page 8, Section 3.5: Revise the text on groundwater sampling to discuss where CANG <br />will place the low -flow purge pump within the anticipated 20 feet of saturated screen. <br />Also, provide a reference to the low -flow purge guidance document that CANG intends to <br />follow when sampling the five wells and identify any planned deviations from the <br />guidance. <br />3. Figure 2: This figure has three (3) borings labeled "1330". These borings appear to <br />correspond to historical borings B30, B31, and B32.
