Treatability Study Report and Feasibility Evaluation for
In Situ Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation
Field Maintenance Shop #24, 8020 South Airport Way
Stockton, California
• Pressure in well FMS-MW5 (20.05 feet from the injection well) increased from -0.02 to
1.80 in. w.c.
• Pressure in well FMS-DPE1 (16.95 feet from the injection well) increased from -0.02 to
1.05 in. w.c.
• Pressure in well FMS-DPE2 (34.25 feet from the injection well) increased from -0.03 to
0.73 in. w.c.
• Pressure in well FMS-SVE1 (7.95 feet from the injection well) increased from -0.01 to
1.50 in. w.c.
Pressure dissipation in the observation wells was monitored after air injection was stopped on
following the testing at AS -1A . AS induced pressures in well FMS-MW5 dissipated from 1.80 in.
w.c. near the end of testing to 0.20 in. w.c. approximately 40 minutes after air sparging ceased.
Induced pressures in well FMS-SVE1 dissipated from 1.50 in. w.c. near the end of testing to
0.10 in. w.c. approximately 50 minutes after testing ceased. The remaining wells dissipated
similarly after air sparging ceased.
Pressure response measurements are summarized in Pilot Test Data Summary sheets in
Appendix F.
4.3.3. Helium Monitoring
Helium concentrations were monitored before (baseline) and during air sparge testing using a
Radiodetection MGD -2002 helium detector. Helium was not detected at measurable
concentrations in any monitoring wells during baseline monitoring. The following increases in
helium concentration were observed during air sparge testing of well FMS-AS1A:
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-MW5 (20.16 feet from the injection well)
increased to 17,650 ppmv (approximately 17.7 %) by the end of FMS-AS1A testing.
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-DPE1 (16.66 feet from the injection well)
increased to 36,000 ppmv (3.6%) within 3 hours of air sparging at FMS-AS1A.
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-DPE2 (34.59 feet from the injection well)
increased to 1,750 ppmv (approximately 1.8 %) by the end of FMS-AS1A testing.
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-SVE1 (7.63 feet from the injection well)
increased to 36,000 ppmv (3.6%) by the end of FMS-AS1A testing.
Air sparging at well FMS-AS1 B caused helium concentrations in monitoring wells to rise to the
following levels:
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-MW5 (20.16 feet from the injection well)
increased to 41,000 ppmv (4.1 %)by the end of FMS-AS1 B testing.
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-DPE1 (16.95 feet from the injection well)
increased to 40,000 ppmv (4.0%) by the end of FMS-AS1 B testing.
• Helium concentrations measured in well FMS-DPE2 (34.25 feet from the injection well)
increased to 36,000 ppmv (3.6%) by the end of FMS-AS1 B testing.
OTIE 23
