N%.Wl 11
plsty to isolate the perforated interval from cementing
operations . The upper portion of the well Will
be cemented
from the bentoriite plug to the surface with cement grout,
using direct displacement and/or a tromie pipe if weeded.
The monitoring weals will be completed using a protective
box at the ,surface, cemented in place. with a rdmovable
cover. The pipe top will be capped with a locking cap for
protection.
During baring operations, all cutting will be described by a
registered geologist. Samples will be taken every 5 ` , comm-
encing at 5 ` below ground level . This will ensure that the
entire vadose zone, which has contained water at any time in
recent years , will be sampled and tested. Samples will be
collected using a 2" split spoon sampler with 2" X 4" (or
similar) brass collection tubes . Duplicate samples 'will be
provided for EliD/RWQCB if desired. The soil samples will be
examined and described. The collected samples will be capped
+pith foil , sealed with plastic end caps and duct tape, lab-
eled and placed in an ice chest for transportation to a cer-
tified laboratory. Chain--of-custody forms will be used for
transferal of samples and their temperature will be measured
when received at the lab. All sampling equipment will either
be obtained as a package from a certified lab or brought to
the site by laboratory personnel . A copy of the laboratory
QA/QC manual will be supplied with :.he sample results.
All borehole equipment will be cleaned between wells and at
other appropriate times with a three step wash and rinse
process using either TSP or a similar industrial cleaner.
At a convenient time after the wells are installed, standing
water levels will be recorded using an electric probe type
water and product level recorder, both in the monitoring
wells and the current water well . The well heads elevations,
at least with respect to each other, will be surveyed ire
order to establish accurate well head elevations .
The wells will be developed by bailing at least 5 casing
volumes of the standing water column, using an appropriate
size PVC bailer with a either a Teflon or similar ball and
seat . When the water level has returned to about 3/4 of its
standing level , bailer samples will be taken. The bailer
will be cleansed as noted above between uses in each well .
All samples will be collected in sterile jars and vials
ouppl i.ed by the testing lab_ Chain-of--Custody forms , ice
chest_-{ e{,c , as noted above will be uw.ed. The laboratory will
be instructed to supply both sample blanks and duplicate
rontztinevs for -Like s-a.mples .if, needed .
