of the tank under Chain-of-Custody by Calnoni'e Laboratory personel , (Exhibit F, ) with instructions to be analyzed for BTX&E, TRH-G, EDB, and organic lead, as required by the SJLHD. Because of the fact that the tank was immediately adjacent to the pumps,, (Plates VII & VIII,) no sample was taken on the fill line. The tank removal and sampling was witnessed by Jaime Favla (sp?) of thIe SJ3LHD. Approximately 14 cubic yards of soil was removed from thelexcavation; after the tank i was pulled, and samples taken, the sail was returned to the hole. Approximately 7 cubic yards of clean filly was added to replace the 1 volume occupied by the removed tank, and the site was returned to grade the same day. i RESULTS OF SAMPLE ANALYSIS k The results of the laboratory anlysis performed on the above samples are tabulated on Table I. All tested components from the sample at the south end of the tank were below reporting limits; very minor amounts of Ethylbenzene, Xylene, and TPH were detected in the sample i[ from the north end of the tank. � S On October 7, 1999, Jim Thorpe Oil , Iri'c, wrote to the CRWQCB, stating that the small amount of contamination in the soil samples did not warrant further site investigation, and requested that the owners be relieved of any further work at the location; (refer to Exhibit F. ) As a result of telephone conversations between Richard Thorpe and Thomas Peltier of the CRWQCH, a sample was taken from the domestic water well on the property, (refer ', to Plate VI, ) by Dr. John Bartell of McLaren Environmental andIanal'yzed for BTX&E, TPH-G, EDB, and organic lead. The results revealed that all components were below reporting limits; table II lists the results in tabular form. PLUME SIZE AND CONFIGURATION: i i The writer did not witness the removall� of .the tank, but it was reported that no discoloration of sail was noted. It appears that only a minor amount of spillage occurred; and, that a plume as such did not exist at this location. ESTIMATE OF AMOUNT OF PRODUCT LEAKAGE: , The owners of the property are deceased, and to the writer's knowledge, there are no records available with which to determine the amount of fuel used during the time the tank was in place, or to estimate any spillage that may have occurred. Because the tank was in excellent condition when removed, and no evidence of leakage or soil discoloration was noted, it can be assumed that any product leakage was of a very minor amount. As ,shown on Plates VI, VII & VIII , the pumps were located immediately adjacent to the driveway. It is most likely that any spills that ,might have occurred would 3 1
