Wm. J. Hunter & Associates 2701 Cottage Way, Ste 25
Sacramento, CA 95825
Registered Geologists (916) 972-7941
stroleum & Mineral Appraisers
GENERAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
LUST Investigation
Boreholes & Monitoring Wells
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Health & Safety Plan, for contaminated soil excavation, borehole
and monitoring well drilling, and associated investigative work
provides for the protection of on--site personnel and the surrounding
area during site characterization activities. The requirements,
specifications and procedures presented with this plan will apply to
all personnel on the site, including employees, sub-- contractors,
consultants, visitors, and regulatory agency personnel.
HAZARD ANALYSIS
The most significant risk associated with petroleum contaminated
soil is exposure to aromatic compounds. Skin contact will be
eliminated by use of appropriate clothing, eye wear, and gloves, and
the inhalation hazard will be minimized by using proper respiratory
protective devices as determined by on-site conditions. The Safety
Coordinator/Project Manager will establish an exclusion zone of a
minimum of a 50 foot radius around the work area. Access to this
zone will be limited to authorized personnel only. If required by
the particular site conditions, total organic vapors will be
monitored within the exclusion zone using appropriate detection
equipment. Current enforceable and recommended exposure limits for
potential site contaminants are presented in Table 1.
PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
A minimum of US EPA level D protection will be required within the
exclusion zone for any workers engaged in sample collection or other
similar activities on the site. Level D protection will include=
# Disposable Tyvek coverall (when in contact with contaminated
material)
# Boots with steel toe
# Splash goggles or safety glasses
0 Chemical resistant disposable gloves, (when in contact with
contaminated materials)
# Hard hats
1 GENERAL HELTH & SAFETY PLAN
