2A`i', 11 8. 1998 21,AM J1r })U NO 394 D. FJ
. 0
Section 4
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
This project is designed to.avaluate the effectiveness of injecting magnesium peroxide into the saturated
and unsaturated zones in order to increase the availability of oxygen and enhance the biodegradation
rates and reduce the mass e.f TPH in the source zone
The scope of work proposed for this site include the following tasks:
+ Advance approximately three boreholes in the area of vadose zone soil impacts around
the former sump(see Figure 4)to a total depth of about 20 feet and pressure inject
Regenesis4l)ORC ihto the saturated and unsaturated zone.
• Advance approximately 25 boreholes in the northeastern corner of the facility and four
boreholes in the northwestern corner of the facility to a total depth of about 20 feet and
pressure inject RegenesisO ORC into the saturated zone(Figure 4). Soil samples may be
collected from selected boreholes for chemical analytical testing.
• Install three 2-inch diameter groundwater monitoring wells(MW-5,MW-6 and MW-7)
and one f-inch diameter groundwater ocraetion well at the locations shown on Figure 4.
+ On a montnty basis,monitor dissolved oxygen,carbon dioxide,redox potential,
temperature and pH in groundwater at wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-S,MW-6 and MW-7.
Oxygen in the vadose zone will be monitored using a buried 02 probe installed near the
former sump. Additional ORC injections may be performed if oxygen levels are found
to diminish to levees less than 1 ppm in the area of TPH impact.
• On a monthly basis for the first three months and quarterly thereafter, collect soil
samples at a point about 5 ft from a vadose zone ORC injection polni and analyze the
samples for foral petroleum hydrocarbons, BTEX, and redox potential.
• Collect groundwater samples and depth-to-water measurements at monthly intervals.
Groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons and BTEX
compounds.
•
If monitoring data suggests that biodegradation is not occurring in the vadose zone, an
irrigation system may be constructed using water pumped from the on-site 4-inch
diameter extraction well. Nutrients in the form of a peileted lawn fertilizer may be
applied to the ground surface using a fertilizer spreader prior to starting the irrigation
system. Alternatively, the fertilizer may be added to the irrigation system.
• Prepare a summary report at the end of 1998,documenting the findings of the demonstration.
402_331-98_b3 4-1
