MAY. NO. r=24 P. 22
FIELD METHODS
1
1,0 PERSONNEL,AVD PROCEDURES
I
l All environmental work described in this workplan will be performed under the direction of a
California Regist4rcd Geologist,Certified Engir:eering Geologist or Hydrogeologist,or
Professional Engi eer(hereinafter referred to as Licensed Professional). A qualified field
geologist will col ct any subsurface soil and groundwater sampies.and coordinate delivery of
the samples to a Skate of Callfornia-certified analytical laboratory. The Licensed Professional
will oversee -medial r activities during all phases of work, including soil sampling, well
installation, data nalysis, and report preparation. All field procedures(e.g., permitting,
sampling protocochain-of-custody, Health and Safety Plan, etc.)will follow county and State
guidelines.
2.0 UNDERGRO UTILITIES
Prior to conductiq%any drilling activities at the site, the location of underground utilities will be
checked by revie%y'ing available blueprints of the site and by contacting Underground Service
Alert with at least148 hours prior notice. All laws regarding excavating around underground
utilities will be followed including marking the proposed area for drilling with white paint at
least 48 hours pri r to drilling and daylighting any utilities using hand tools for utilities"located"
within Z ft of the roposed boring location. PG&E crews will be utilized to locate all
underground gas upply lines. In addition,a soil probe and/or magnetic locator will be used at
proposed drilling locations where the presence of underground utilities remain unknown. The
1 upper 3 to 5 ft of ach borehole will be advanced using a Eland auger, posthole digger,or similar
device.
3.0 DRILLING Al"SAMPLING PROCEDURES
3.1 Soil Bori i g and Soil Sampling Using a Hallow-Stem Attger Drilling Rig
Soil bori*s may be advanced and sampled using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped
1 with hollow-stern, continuous flight augers. Samples of the subsurface soils will be
collectedt intervals no greater than 5 ft using a 2-inch or!1/2-inch I.G. split spoon
Istan sampler, dard penetration sampler, or a 5-ft continuous coring device. The
standardenetration sampler will be used for the collection of soil samples for lithologic
descripti or sieve analysis, only. Sail samples collected using a standard penetration
sampler v ill not be used for chemical analytical testing. All drill bits, drill rods, augers,
etc.,will $c steam-cleaned prior to use at each site and between each borehole.
The follo*ing procedures will be employed when collecting and handling soil samples
bymeans fthe hollow-stem auger drill rig:
Ili
1. Pi for to sampling, the core barrel(or equivalent) and sample liners will
bi steam cleaned or thoroughly washed with a solugion of Alconox or
n -phosphate TSP and rinsed with potable water.
402331-9863 A-1
