' INTRODUCTION
PG&E's McMullin Gas Dehydrator Station is located in San Joaquin County, about two miles
south of Manteca, on Airport Way (County Road J3), near the intersection of Airport Way
' (County Road J3) and Perrin Road (see Figure 1). The dehydrator station is used by PG&E's
Gas Production and Storage Department for removing production fluids from natural gas in
' the pipeline. Petroleum hydrocarbons may have impacted the subsurface soils as a result of
the gas dehydration operations at the project site. TES Land and Water Quality Unit has
prepared this workplan to assess the presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the
' shallow subsurface soils at the site. This workplan includes a description of the methods
which will be used during all field activities. A site specific Health and Safety Plan is also
' included for the protection of on-site workers and the neighboring public. This workplan has
been prepared at the request of Mr. E. Lee of PG&E's Gas Production and Storage
Department.
SITE DESCRIPTION
' The McMullin Gas Dehydrator Station is located at an elevation of approximately 25 feet MSL
on a relatively flat, rectangular -shaped lot. The surface of the dehydrator station is covered
' with about 6 inches of 3/4 inch crushed rock. The site was originally constructed in 1961,
and reconstructed some time after 1973. Descriptions and drawings used in this workplan
' reflect the original facility design.
The major process equipment and underground utilities are shown relative to the site
' boundaries on the Site Plan, Figure 2. Prior to 1973, a glycol reboiler and production fluids
tank were located in the northeast and northwest corners of the site, respectively. The
dehydrator tower was located near the center of the site. The glycol reboiler included a still
for condensing the production fluid vapors which drained to a nearby sump.
I
Buried gas supply and glycol lines connected the dehydrator tower to the glycol reboiler.
The glycol lines transported wet glycol from the dehydrator tower to the reboiler and dry
glycol from the reboiler back to the dehydrator tower.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The proposed preliminary site investigation consists of borehole soil sampling within, and just
outside of, the property boundaries at the McMullin Gas Dehydrator Station. The work will
consist of drilling and sampling the subsurface soils at 6 on-site and 3 off-site locations
to assess the presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons. The data and results of this
study will be compiled and presented in a summary report. This workplan describes the
cca09-23-92/8787a.51/cp31 1
