0
performance. These QA/QC procedures are outlined in the laboratory
Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan which is available upon
request. Organic chemical analyses will be performed in conformance
with standard procedures established by the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in "Guidelines Establishing
Test Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants Under the Clean Water
Act" (40 CFR Part 136, October 1984). The laboratory is periodically
evaluated through external audits conducted by the EPA and the State
of California Department of Toxic Substances Control using QC
laboratories.
7.0 CHAIN -OF -CUSTODY
Chain -of -Custody procedures will be used to identify and ensure traceability of the samples
collected. These procedures will also be used to document the handling and shipping procedures
of the sample(s). Specifically, the Chain -of -Custody procedures will trace the sample(s) from
collection, through all custody transfers, and finally to the storage facility or the analytical
laboratory, where the laboratory's internal procedures will govern until final disposition of the
samples. This information will be recorded on the Chain -of -Custody form which will remain with
the samples at all times. Proper taping, locking, and sealing procedures shall be used to prevent or
detect tampering of the samples. The Chain -of -Custody form(s) will be used for a packaged lot of
samples (i.e., more than one sample will most likely be recorded on a single form). If all of the
samples in a given lot cannot be recorded on a single Chain -of -Custody form, an additional
form(s) will be used.
8.0 WASTE DISPOSAL PLAN
This section provides guidelines for handling materials generated during the field activities
associated with this investigation.
All soils brought to the surface will be placed on and covered with 6 -mil plastic sheeting. The
cuttings will be permitted to biodegrade at the surface during the course of this project.
The water collected during decontamination operations, as well as excess water removed from the
temporary wells during well purging and groundwater grab sampling procedures, will be stored
on-site in sealed DOT -approved 55 -gallon drums. The drums will be labeled with the monitoring
well I.D. number(s), date, and nature of the contents. All drummed liquids will be sampled and
properly disposed of based on the analytical results.
California Uniform Hazardous Waste manifests will be completed by PG&E as required for the
transportation and disposal of any hazardous waste that may be generated during the investigation.
Disposal of all wastes will be conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
