2.0' SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 FIELD WORK
2.1.1 Pre-Field Activities
Earth Tech will obtain a drilling permit froth the San Joaquin Public Health Services/Environmental
Health Division ( PHS/EHD). prior to commencing work.
Earth Tech will prepared a site-specific Health & Safety Plan and submit it to PHS/EHD prior to
commencing work.
2.1.2 Direct Push Sampling
Earth Tech will advance one direct push sample borehole through the center of the former UST
location. The borehole will he extended to the maximum depth of volatile compounds detectable by
field instrumentation and visual observation or-20 feet below ground surface (BGS), whichever is
greater. The 20-foot BGS depth corresponds to 1978-79 (drought period) groundwater levels.
The depth to first occurrence of groundwater is estimated.to be at 10 to 20 feet BGS.
2.1.3 Soil Sampling
Under the direction of a Registered Geologist, continuous core soil samples will be collected during the
advancement of the direct push borehole. The samples will be collected inx'specially cleaned transparent
plastic sampling sleeves.
Soil samples will be collected for possible laboratory analysis at five'foot intervals, or ai hthology
changes, whichever is most frequent.
All soil samples collected for laboratory analysis will be capped, labeled, refrigerated, and submitted
to a California state-certified-laboratory for analysis.
A grab-water sample will be collected using a cleaned polyethylene baiter should ,groundwater be
encountered. The water sample will be_,refrigerated and submitted, to a California state-certified
laboratory for analysis.
Field instrumentation (a hexane-calibrated'organic vapor analyzer [OVA]) will be used to monitor .the
soil samples for volatile organic compounds.
2.1.4 Laboratory Analysis
-
A California state-certified laboratory will be contracted .to analyze the soil sampies and possible
groundwater sample for the following contaminants of concern:
• TEPH-Gasoline (EPA modified 8015)
+ Benzene, Toluene. Ethylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX) EPA 8260
MTBE, ETRE. TAME, TB, and DIPS by EPA Method 8260
2
