1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
A 1,000 -gallon unleaded gasoline underground storage.tank'(UST), piping and dispenser island were
removed from the property at 2050 W. Fremont Street in .August 1992. The results of tank - removal
sampling were published by Kroeker Environmental Services 'in August 27, 1992.
Earth Tech was not present during the tank excavation, removal, -or subsequent sampling and
assessment. The owner of the property at the time reported that the UST appeared to be in good
condition.
Samples collected from the bottom of the tank excavation were analyzed by Twinings Laboratory.
These samples indicated residual. hydrocarbons in the soil, as summarized in Table 1.
TABLE 1
Results of Soil Analysis Sampled Collected 8/20/92
Soil Sample
Sample Depth
BT.EX {.cg/kg)
TVPH-Gasoline
MTBE (fig/kg)
(feet s)
(mg/kg)
S-1 (North Bottom)
I 1
None Detected
None Detected.`
Not Analyzed
S-2 (South Bottom)
I I
Benzene - ND
600
Not Analyzed
Toluene - 37
Ethylbenzene - 46
Xylenes - 85
CS -1 (Stockpile)
None Detected
None DetectedI
Not Analyzed
.vui%.c. n1 VU&rj , 1"Z.
1.2 OBJECTIVES
As requested by the San Joaquin Public - Health Services/Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD),the proposed subsurface investigation is intended to evaluate the extent of petroleum
impacted soil from the former UST; to evaluate the need for remedial action; and to provide data that
may be used for site closure.
a
