The 10 -foot diameter I5,000 -gallon
tank was reported to be taking on water in the Interstitial space between the interior and exwlor
tank walls.
A shipping packet is provided with each tank that is shipped. The shipping packet Includes the
Installation instructions, insisallaabon checklist, calibration chart, and warranty inflonnation. Too
Installation instrucWns are also laminated to the shell of the tank.
The instalfng contractor and the owner fills out the installation checklist. This checklist highlights
this important points of the installation instructions. On the reverse side of the checklist.
Instructions are provided for rnamuring the inberkx tank diameter before and after installation.
Table A on the document indioates the maximum deflection that is acceptable for a newly installed
tank. For the 8400t and t D400t diarneter tanks, a maximum deflection of 1-112 Inches Is alkwed.
I have provided a ropy of this document for your review_
The purpose of the tank backfill process is to provide even support to keep the entire tank in
round. To accomplish a proper backfill of the tank, the installation instructions require the backfill
be either pea gravel ranging between 118 inch and 314 Inch, or crushed stone ranging between 1/8
Inch and 112 inch. Both materials should have no more than 5% of the material passing the #8
sieve, which is less than the 118 -inch size.
When the Field Technician entered the 10 -foot diameter tank, he took Interior vertical
measurements of the normally round 120 inch inside diameter tank. The dimensions in inches
from left to right were 118-112, 117-112, 117-114, 117-112, 117-114, and 11MM from one end of
the tank to the other. Deflection measurements in Inches were 1-112, 2-1122, 2-314, 2-112, 2-314,
and 1-315. VViith a maximum deflnc on of 2-314 inches on both tank shell halves, the vertical
deftction measurements exceed the 1-112 inch maximum allowed in the installation checkkt.
The technician also found a couple of "football" sized bottom bucklers adjacent to the left end cap.
Although the interior tank did not break, the exterior wall was probably broken at this area and
CaRPDRAnB f aaFde 8 51St) ILFF6RWtJ CHFUICALROAD .
