#404 Failed to keep containers of HW closed except when adding or removing
HW
1. In Building 2 near the paint booth, clumps of waste from the ultrasonic
cleaner were observed on a funnel and paint powder was accumulated inside
three open 5 gallon buckets.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
The funnel from the ultrasonic cleaner was disposed of as hazardous waste and
replaced with a new funnel. The three 5 gallon buckets were also disposed of
as hazardous waste and were replaced with a new 5 gallon container with a
hazardous waste label, "EMPTY DAILY" label, and a lid.
#407 An empty HW or Haz Mat container (larger than 5 gallons) was not
marked with the date it was emptied and/or not managed within one year of
being emptied
1. Two empty 55 gallon black steel drums, one marked as "empty used for
hydraulic oil", and an empty 20 gallon white plastic drum were observed in
the hazardous waste storage tent without empty labeling.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
One of the two empty 55 gallon black steel drums was unused and the one
marked as "empty used for hydraulic oil", was used to drain hydraulic oil while
working on a routing machine. Once maintenance on the routing machine was
completed, the oil was put back into the machine. That drum has since been
used for waste oil. Upon opening the 20 gallon white plastic drum, to the best
of our knowledge it was a clean container, and has been subsequently used for
hazardous waste.
#605 Failed to completely label containers or tanks of hazardous waste
1. A 30 gallon black steel drum of"perchloroethylene, oil" was observed in the
vapor degreaser room with no hazardous property.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
The hazardous property was inadvertently left off the hazardous waste label.
The "toxic" box was checked and corrected at the time of the inspection.
